Akamai is announcing this morning that it has partnered with Turk Telekom to build and manage an operator content delivery network (OCDN) in Turkey. Turk Telekom will be deploying Akamai's Aura Spectra, a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution whereby Akamai dedicates servers for the company's use, which are then maintained by Akamai along with its CDN software.
The Turk Telekom partnership is the latest for Akamai with an international telecom/mobile carrier, following similar partnerships with Orange, KT, Swisscom and AT&T.
The new OCDN is meant to increase speed and performance within Turkey for fixed-line and mobile broadband users to gain access to content, most notably social media and online video, both of which are hugely popular in Turkey. In addition, the OCDN will offer a better quality experience for users accessing Turkish content outside of the country.
