HealthiNation, an independent provider of health-related online videos, is announcing this morning that online industry veteran Doug McFarland has joined as Chief Digital Officer to oversee digital strategy and operations. McFarland was previously co-CEO of Dimestore Media (acquired by Knowledge Networks), CEO of online video ad network ScanScout, EVP/GM of Eyeblaster and EVP/GM of Advertising.com. He's also been on HealthiNation's board for the last two years.
HealthiNation CEO Raj Amin told me in an email that McFarland's network and contacts will help the company's online distribution efforts, which are its main growth area. HealthiNation has been on a roll recently; winning the medical marketing industry's 2010 "media brand of the year," growing revenue by 300% over last year and rolling out its second annual "Best Hospitals" video series with U.S. News & World Report in July.
HealthiNation is looking to broaden its audience to include viewers who want to be healthier, but aren't necessarily searching for a specific media topic. It has already had success in this genre with series like "Girl Talk" and "Better You." The company's high-quality content, engagement and brand-safe environment have been key to attracting major industry advertisers. With McFarland on board the company should gain further momentum.
