Online video platform Brightcove has announced Brightcove Live, a live streaming solution that includes server-side ad insertion, cloud DVR, content encryption, on-the-fly clipping and VOD asset creation. Brightcove Live can be deployed as a standalone service and also as part of Brightcove’s broader Video Cloud platform, which means it taps into all of Video Cloud’s technology tools and partnerships.
Brightcove said that its customer Seven West Media, which is one of Australia’s largest media companies, used Brightcove Live successfully in its beta to stream play at the Australian Open from 16 different courts and also use the clipping feature to create 400+ clips including interviews with players and highlights.
Brightcove Live arrives at a time when live streaming has gained a lot of visibility, primarily driven by Facebook’s embrace. Facebook’s head of video Fidji Simo said last week that one out of every five videos that are shared on Facebook is live and that the amount of time users spend watching videos grew over 4x over the past year.
(Note: Brightcove will be demonstrating Brightcove Live at the upcoming NABShow and Anil Jain, EVP and GM of Media will be participating in the NABShow Online Video Conference, which VideoNuze is producing, on Monday, April 24th, in Las Vegas. Readers can receive $100 off Conference Flex Pass tickets by using code EP06.)
