Video app technology provider You.i TV said it will power History’s new TV Everywhere app for connected TVs, using the React Native development platform. React Native is an open source, javascript application platform backed by Facebook. While originated mainly for mobile use, Trisha Cooke, You.i TV’s head of marketing, told me in a briefing that React Native is gaining momentum in CTV as well, for its ability to leverage underlying code for iOS and Android.
You.i TV said in December that it would be extending its technology to React Native. Trisha said that the company has been working with 5 initial content providers on early React Native implementations, with strong interest from others. History is the first one to be announced and its parent company, A+E Networks is a new customer for You.i TV.
Despite its embrace of React Native, Trisha said You.i TV will continue to provide C++ CTV apps, its traditional approach, per customer preferences. A launch date for the new History TVE CTV app wasn’t announced.
