thePlatform’s Co-CEO Marty Roberts Departs
thePlatform’s co-CEO Marty Roberts has left the company, GeekWire first reported yesterday. Comcast, which owns thePlatform, confirmed the move subsequently in a statement (see below). Roberts had been with thePlatform for 9 years, beginning as VP, Marketing, then as SVP, Sales and Marketing, and finally as co-CEO, with Jamie Miller. Both were appointed in May, 2014, upon prior CEO Ian Blaine’s departure.
During Roberts’ time at thePlatform, the company expanded its customer base and partnerships as well as building out key product features. thePlatform’s content customers now include A+E, Bell Media, CBC, CBS, Fox, History Channel, NBCU, Shaw Media, Syfy, Travel Channel, USA Network. Pay-TV operator customers include BT, Cablevision, Comcast, Cox, Liberty Global, Rogers, Telstra and others. With its strong presence in both the content and operator communities, thePlatform has also been a driving force behind TV Everywhere’s rollout.
More recently thePlatform has also been adding international SVOD customers such as shomi (Canada), Stan (Australia), Viaplay (Nordics) and Starz PLAY Arabia (Middle East).
thePlatform was founded in 2001 and acquired by Comcast in 2006.
Following is the statement from Comcast:
“In mid-2015, thePlatform aligned with Comcast Wholesale to build market-leading products to serve the worldwide video industry. After early successes with customers it became clear that an even tighter alignment across the two organizations would allow for a more rapid expansion and optimization of the combined portfolios to meet the ever-expanding needs of customers.
The leadership team recognized the need to have a central point of leadership at thePlatform, and a common vision, to support a tighter alignment of the organization and build forward-thinking technology products.
As such, thePlatform will continue to be aligned under Matt McConnell, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Comcast Wholesale. Jamie Miller will continue to report to Matt and be responsible for thePlatform. Marty Roberts, who previously served as co-CEO of thePlatform, will be leaving the company.”
